DIESEL ENGINE COMPRESSED AIR SYSTEM-WORKING

WORKING OF THE SYSTEM

COMPRESSED AIR SYSTEM

Compressed air delivered by compressor stores in the main reservoir after being Cooled by after coolers. The safety valve set at 10.5 kg/ca2 has been provided in between two main reservoirs before check valve to ensure that air is vented to atmosphere if the air pressure in the pneumatic system exceeds it’s the air pressure in the pneumatic system exceeds its setting. The compressor loading is controlled by electric,  pneumatic compressor governor (EPG). Consisting of Manifolds pressure switch and 3-way magnet valve in place of NS – 16 Compressor governor used in 28 Lay. 1 system. The EPG is actuated by the air pressure for which connection is taken from first reservation. The compressed air from the main reservoir passes through J-Filter, cock with vent strainer when maximum pressure of 10kg/cm2 is reached, the 3 – way magnetic valve is energized by pressure switch to unload the compressor by venting compressor output to atmosphere. Thus the compressor works against atmosphere pressure and no air is charged into the reservoir till the pressure switch opens re energize the magnet valve.

The compressed air after passing through the first main reservoir passes through AU duplex check valve and D24B feed valve to feed pipe.

In release positions of the A-9 automatic brake valve main reservoir air flows to the regulating portion of auto brake valve where it is reduced to a predetermined pressure. The regulated air pressure  flows through  A-9 auto brake to C- 2  relay valve to change the air brake pipe. The maximum air brake is maintained by A – 9 brake valve regulating knob.

C – 3 distributor valve is provided with the arrangements to obtain application and release timings to suit passenger and freight stock timing wing the stipulated valves  with the help of 435 cu in. reservoir in e B.C  line between  D – I pilot air valve  and F-I selector passenger / freight position in distributor valve I.

As break system on these locos is suitable for only air braked  train, therefore port No. 1 and 7 or SA – 9 independent brake valves. Port No. 53 of MU-2B valve and port No. 12 of F – I selector valve have been plugged.
