INDIAN RAILWAYS – INDEPENDENT BRAKE APPLICATION
When the brake valve handle is moved into application Zone, the regulating cam dog forces the inlet valve towards the diaphragm assembly and causes the double ball valve to seat at the exhaust and open at the inlet valve. Main reservoir air flows through port 30 to port 20 and in to the application & release pipe. This air pilots and locomotive brake application. MR air also passes through a choke passage to the face of the regulating valve diaphragm.
When the force acting on the face of the diaphragm overcomes the force exerted by the regulating Valve Spring. The diaphragm assembly will move away from the inlet valve assembly. This will allow the inlet valve seat and the brake valve will assume a ‘lap’ position.
